1. Information InstantCV Collects

A. Account information you provide directly

Name, email address, and password when you sign up or log in.
Billing and payment details, if and when paid plans are introduced (see Section 4).

B. Resume and profile content

Work history, education, skills, contact details, photos, and any other information you enter into a resume or CV.
Prompts and inputs you give the AI writing assistant, and the content it generates for you.

C. Information collected automatically

Device and log data (IP address, browser type, operating system, pages visited, timestamps).
Essential cookies used to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. InstantCV does not currently use analytics or marketing cookies (see Section 7).

D. Information from third parties

If you sign in via a third-party service (e.g., Google), InstantCV may receive basic profile information from that provider.

2. How InstantCV Uses Your Information

InstantCV uses the information it collects to:

Create and manage your account;
Build, save, auto-save, and export your resumes and CVs;
Power the AI-assisted writing suggestions;
Process payments and manage subscriptions, once paid plans are introduced;
Send you service-related communications (e.g., confirmations, password resets). InstantCV does not currently send marketing or newsletter emails; if that changes, this policy will be updated;
Monitor, maintain, and improve InstantCV, including troubleshooting;
Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or security issues;
Comply with legal obligations.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

InstantCV is operated from Cameroon and processes personal data in accordance with Cameroon's Law No. 2024/017 of 23 December 2024 on the Protection of Personal Data.

Where GDPR applies (for users in the EU/EEA/UK), InstantCV relies on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the service you signed up for), your consent (e.g., certain cookies), InstantCV's legitimate interests (e.g., improving the service, preventing fraud), and compliance with legal obligations.

4. How InstantCV Shares Your Information

InstantCV does not sell your personal data. InstantCV may share information with:

Hosting and infrastructure providers: InstantCV's frontend is hosted on Vercel, and its backend and database are hosted on Railway, with servers located in the United States (California). These providers only receive the data needed to operate InstantCV.
A payment processor, once paid plans are introduced in the future.
Legal and safety reasons: if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of InstantCV, its users, or the public.
Business transfers: if InstantCV is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a successor policy.

InstantCV does not currently use any third-party analytics tool or third-party AI provider; the AI writing assistant and any usage insights are currently handled within InstantCV's own systems. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated accordingly.

5. Data Retention

InstantCV retains your account information and resumes for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your account, InstantCV will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, tax, or dispute-resolution purposes.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Access, correct, or delete the personal data InstantCV holds about you;
Export your data (data portability), including downloading your resumes as PDF at any time from your dashboard;
Object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent;
Lodge a complaint with Cameroon's Personal Data Protection Authority (established under Law No. 2024/017 of 23 December 2024), or with your local data protection authority if you reside outside Cameroon.

7. Cookies

InstantCV uses a cookie consent banner. Only essential cookies are currently used, the kind needed to keep you logged in and remember your basic preferences. InstantCV does not currently use analytics or marketing cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may affect the functionality of InstantCV.

8. Data Security

InstantCV uses reasonable technical and organizational measures (such as encryption in transit and access controls) to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and InstantCV cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Data Transfers

InstantCV is based in Cameroon, but its infrastructure providers are located elsewhere: the frontend is hosted on Vercel and the backend and database are hosted on Railway, with servers located in the United States (California). This means your information, including resume content, is transferred to and stored in the United States, regardless of where you are located. InstantCV takes steps to ensure this infrastructure provides an appropriate level of protection for your data, consistent with Cameroon's Law No. 2024/017 on the Protection of Personal Data.

10. Children's Privacy

InstantCV is not directed at children under 16, and InstantCV does not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided personal data to InstantCV, contact InstantCV so it can be deleted.

11. Third-Party Links

InstantCV may contain links to third-party websites (e.g., job boards). InstantCV is not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties; you are encouraged to review their policies separately.

12. Changes to This Policy

InstantCV may update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time, at its sole discretion, without prior notice. Changes take effect as soon as the revised policy is posted on this page, with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of InstantCV after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. You are encouraged to review this page periodically.
